Fullerton’s Tami Elliott Is Named the Country’s Best Senior Gymnast
Tami Elliott, Cal State Fullerton gymnast, was named the winner of the American Award, given to the country’s best college senior.
Elliott’s collegiate career ended March 7, when she suffered a fracture of the sixth cervical vertebra during a practice session on the vault. During her 3 1/2 years at Fullerton, Elliott, from Newport News, Va., earned 10 career All-American awards, the highest total for women in the NCAA.
Elliott had been a three-time nominee for the Broderick Award, given yearly to the top female athlete in each sport, as well as finishing in the top three in the all-around in her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons.
