A mock trial held for charity that reenacted the 1961 Lenny Bruce obscenity trial drew a new verdict last week--innocent. Superior Court Judge Lucy McCabe, participating in the Community Law Week event--stage by local legal groups--stated, “Clearly Mr. Bruce was exercising his right to free speech.” Will Durst portrayed the late comedian, uttering Bruce’s famous courtroom speech: “I tried to shock people, but not with words, with images . . . and take a tiny little mirror to society.”
