After 19 years at the Music Center, the Academy Awards will be broadcast from the Shrine Civic Auditorium next year, it was announced Thursday. The reasons: twice the seating and more rehearsal time for the 1988 show, which will mark Oscar’s 60th anniversary. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Robert Wise said the awards show could move back to the Music Center in the future.
