10,000 AIDS Carriers Reported in Colombia

BOGOTA, Colombia —
There are 10,000 to 20,000 carriers of the deadly AIDS virus in Colombia and more than 200 suffering from the disease, the prestigious National Medical Academy told a weekend seminar.
The figure of acquired immune deficiency syndrome carriers is more than 100 times the number that the Health Ministry has reported. Only 42 cases were confirmed.
A Health Ministry spokesman told the seminar that a national program is being prepared to study and fight the disease and to educate the public.
