San Marcos
A “suspicious” fire caused $160,000 in damages at a pool supplies company in San Marcos Sunday night, the Sheriff’s Department reported.
Firefighters from San Marcos, Escondido and Deer Springs responded to the fire at Associated Wholesale Pool Supplies Co. on the 800 block of Rancheros Drive at 11:05 p.m. When they arrived, the interior of the building was engulfed in flames, and the San Diego County hazardous materials team was called in because chlorine and other dangerous chemicals are stored near the building, according to Sgt. Conrad Grayson of the Sheriff’s Department.
It took firefighters 25 minutes to put out the fire, which did not ignite any hazardous chemicals, said Sheriff’s Det. Robert Williams.
