Spin magazine is back. Five weeks after Penthouse pulled the plug on the irreverent rock monthly, Spin has resumed publication, with new financing and a new distributor. The magazine failed to publish an October issue but will return to newsstands Nov. 17 with a combined November/December issue. . . . Wade Williams, who made audio and video recordings of Elvis Presley’s last two concerts in 1977, died in December, but willed the Presley tapes to his daughter, Jacklyn. The Presley estate ruled that Williams owned the tapes and could sell them as a “collector’s package,” but not for broadcast. Williams’ widow, Holly, has put the tapes on the block for $500,000. The sale is being handled by the Tyler/Kjar Agency in Los Angeles. . . . Guitarist Johnny Marr, formerly of the Smiths, has joined the Pretenders. . . . An album by Mickey Rooney Jr. is being produced by Denny Correll, formerly of Blues Image, not by Denny Cordell, formerly Leon Russell’s producer, as reported in Pop Eye last week.
