Kirk Propels CSUN to 8-1 Soccer Win
Joey Kirk, the all-time points leader at Cal State Northridge, continued to rewrite the school record book as he scored a career-high five goals in the Matadors’ 8-1 nonconference soccer victory over Westminster College of Utah at North Campus Stadium on Saturday night.
Kirk’s first goal, on an assist from Henry Vasquez, snapped a 1-1 tie at the 18:46 mark of the first half.
Teammates Steve Lazarus and Rodney Batt scored shortly thereafter to give CSUN a 4-1 halftime lead.
The second half was vintage Kirk as the senior forward scored four goals. He has a career total of 45, which ties the school record. His 11 points (five goals, one assist) on Saturday increased his school career-points record to 121.
CSUN (8-1), ranked fourth in the NCAA Division II, opens defense of its California Collegiate Athletic Assn. title against Cal Poly Pomona at home Wednesday night.
