Van Nuys Man Held in Suspected Drug Death

A 20-year-old Van Nuys man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman who police believe died of an overdose of drugs he provided, authorities said Monday.

Police said Todd Doty was one of several friends of Debra T. Rosenberg who found her unconscious and unresponsive about 7:30 a.m. Sunday in her Lake View Terrace home. Rosenberg, 31, was declared dead when Los Angeles Fire Department rescuers could not revive her.

Detective Jim Vojtecky said police believe that Rosenberg died of an overdose of heroin, but an autopsy will reveal the cause of death. The arrest was unusual because it is usually impossible to gain evidence linking an overdose victim to an alleged drug supplier, Vojtecky said.

He declined to say how the link between Rosenberg and Doty was made.
