The Rev. Kenneth F. Baker will be installed Sunday as pastor of St. James Presbyterian Church of Tarzana. The 2 p.m. induction will be followed by a potluck luncheon and reception. The Rev. Robert McDill of Encino Presbyterian Church will the guest speaker. Baker comes from Concord, Calif., where he was parish associate. He earned his master of divinity and Ph.D. of ministry from the San Francisco Theological Seminary. The church is at 19414 Ventura Blvd., Tarzana. For information, call (818) 345-2057.

A retirement party for Avanelle M. Smith of the San Fernando Valley Interfaith Council will be held Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Granada Hills Presbyterian Church, 10400 Zelzah Ave., Granada Hills. Smith, a Granada Hills resident, has been the council’s executive director since 1973. Under her direction, the Living Independently through the Networking of the Community (LINC) project, which offers counseling and support for senior citizens, became a reality. Smith, who is also involved with a literacy group in Pacoima, will continue as president of the Southern California Interfaith Coalition of Aging. A $1 donation will be requested.
