Orange County Community College Roundup : Muzzy Shuts Out Riverside, OCC Wins in Soccer

Freshman goalkeeper Steve Muzzy of Orange Coast College had 13 saves to help shut out Riverside, 3-0, in an Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer match at Orange Coast Friday.

Muzzy, a former standout at Corona del Mar High School, was helped by Brian Krause, David Vautrin and Phillip Reget, who scored one goal each for the Pirates (7-5-2, 5-3-1).

In another Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer match:

Rancho Santiago 5, Cypress 1--Jose Guerrero scored twice to lead Rancho Santiago at Cypress. Freshman Steve Buzzetta, a former standout at Western High, scored his 17th goal of the season for Cypress (3-8-2, 2-5-2).

In South Coast Conference men’s soccer:

Golden West 4, Cerritos 2--Kurt Lundberg scored three goals to lead the Rustlers at Golden West. Goalkeeper Erik Smith had 15 saves for Golden West (11-1-3, 2-1-1).

In Orange Empire Conference water polo play:

Saddleback 21, Rancho Santiago 5--Twelve players scored for first-place Saddleback (10-0, 15-2) in the victory at home. Saddleback has lost only to Long Beach City, which is ranked first in Southern California, and Golden West, which is ranked third behind Saddleback.

In Orange Empire Conference volleyball:

Orange Coast 3, Cypress 1--Karen Nickel had 18 kills and Kristi Moorhart 21 assists to lead the Pirates to a 15-12, 17-15, 6-15, 15-6 victory at Cypress. The Pirates are 3-4 and 1-1.

In South Coast Conference volleyball:

Golden West 3, El Camino 0--Janene Caldwell had eight kills and Christie Hooper had seven blocks and four aces to lead Golden West, the top-ranked team in the state, to a three-game sweep at El Camino. Golden West (13-1, 5-0) won, 15-6, 15-2, 15-6.
