ORANGE COUNTY PREP FOOTBALL : Sunset League
Ocean View 3, Marina 0--A late Viking drive bogged down at the Ocean View 12-yard line at Westminster High School, preserving a Seahawk win.
With second and seven at the 14-yard line with 14 seconds remaining, Viking senior running back Jeff Robbins was swarmed under by a crowd of Seahawks at the 12-yard line as the final whistle sounded.
Marina Coach Chris Ramsey said he had no thoughts of going for a tie in the waning moments. “We were playing to win,” he said.
Matt Bertram’s 45-yard field goal midway through the second quarter was the difference in the game. Ocean View is 3-4 overall, 1-1 in the Sunset League. The Vikings are 1-6, 0-2.
Ocean View Coach Guy Carrozzo credited his defense. “Going into the game, we knew they had a good defense, but it was our defense that won it,” Carrozzo said. “What can you say? We’re in second place, a game out of first, right where we want to be.”
The Vikings were led by senior Marcus Carles, who rushed for 101 in 19 carries.
