Cityhood for Mission Viejo

Share

Being native Californians, my husband and I have enjoyed living in such diverse communities as Van Nuys, Granada Hills, Encino and Tarzana. However, we have never experienced the feeling of “pride of community” that we’ve enjoyed since moving to Mission Viejo four years ago.

We love Mission Viejo--the parks, the landscaped streets, the shops and especially the people we have met. This is where we intend to spend the rest of our lives. When we tell people “we live in Mission Viejo,” the inner feeling of pride surprises even us. We want that proud feeling to remain with us permanently.

We have read and listened to arguments against cityhood, and we believe these well intentioned ideas are, unfortunately, based on emotions and misinformation, not facts. We know that Proposition 13 limits the amount of property tax levied, so the major fear of naysayers that property taxes will be increased is unfounded.

Mission Viejo will have some problems, of course, but we’d rather deal with “our” problems than with those of a larger city that we haven’t even dreamed of.
