Northwest winds gusting to 30 m.p.h. are expected to whip through coastal and inland valley areas today and Sunday, according to forecasters, who also are predicting a 30% chance of light showers for today.

“Winds will get up to 45 m.p.h. in mountain areas, where we’ve posted a strong wind advisory,” National Weather Service forecaster Frank Perdue said.

The wind is expected to come from a Pacific cold front that originated in the Gulf of Alaska and is passing through San Diego this weekend, Perdue said.

“Winds in coastal and inland areas are expected to progressively increase through Sunday, though we expect mountain winds to remain in the 30 m.p.h. to 45 m.p.h range through Sunday,” Perdue said.

Temperatures are expected to remain mild today with partly cloudy skies, he said.

Weak Santa Ana Due to Return Sunday

By Sunday, a weak Santa Ana condition is expected to return to the area, sending temperatures upward several degrees. The winds will then shift and be from the northeast. “San Diegans can look forward to clear, sunny skies for Sunday,” Perdue said.

Coastal highs will range from 63 to 67 degrees today, with lows between 48 and 55 degrees through Sunday. Highs on Sunday will range from 68 to 72 degrees, according to Dan Bowman, a meteorologist at WeatherData, which provides forecasts for The Times.

Inland valleys will have highs ranging from 65 to 70 degrees today. Highs Sunday will jump to 70 to 75 degrees. Lows both days will be 42 to 48 degrees.

Chilly temperatures are expected in mountain areas, with highs ranging from 45 to 52 degrees today and Sunday. Lows will drop down to the 28- to 35-degree range.

No rain is expected today in the desert, though windy conditions are expected through Sunday. Highs there will range from 74 to 79 degrees, with lows of 28 to 35 degrees both days.
