Quarterback Bryan Addison carried 16 times for 126 yards, including a 71-yard touchdown scamper, as Chatsworth High (7-3) beat visiting Fairfax, 16-8, Friday night to earn a spot in the 3-A Division semifinals.

Chatsworth linebacker Matt Helm secured the Chancellor victory when he recovered a fumble by Fairfax quarterback James Malbrough on the Chatsworth one-yard line with 2:30 remaining. The victory was marred by a neck injury suffered by defensive back DeWayne Lyons midway through the second quarter. Chancellor Coach Myron Gibford said he was told by paramedics as Lyons was being taken off the field in an ambulance that the injury appeared serious.

After a scoreless first half, Addison scored on the second play of the third quarter on a 71-yard option run off right tackle.

Addison, who also plays defensive back, intercepted a Malbrough pass and returned the ball 37 yards for an apparent score, but it was called back because of an illegal block. The interception did serve to set up a six-play, 41-yard drive, capped by fullback Carl Johnson’s one-yard run.

Chris Husted’s 34 yard field goal ended the Chatsworth scoring midway through the fourth quarter.
