Hallelujah! Renew my membership in the Robert Hilburn Fan Club and spin another U2 platter . . . this girl’s faith in pure rock ‘n’ roll has been restored.

Hilburn’s article on Couch Potato Rock was dripping with brilliant insight, intelligent thinking and long overdue candor regarding the shallow pop trash that now permeates our airwaves.

His confrontation with the mindlessness of today’s Top 40 Hits will hopefully set many a rocker’s mind buzzing and force them to think twice the next time a Debbie Gibson tune squeaks onto the radio.

It’s a crime that such innovative and inspiring artists like U2 and Peter Gabriel must drown in the dreaded sea of pop drivel, but perhaps Hilburn’s awareness of this tragedy can eventually serve as a lifesaver that will be cast out to rescue these suffocating saints.

Keep the faith, Bob, and take comfort in the fact that your views are shared by at least one other brilliant individual. Uh, yeah . . . well besides Bruce . . . I mean me.
