Opposition is mounting in Britain to the possible takeover of British Caledonian Airways by Scandinavian Airline Systems, the Sunday Telegraph reported in London. The newspaper said the Conservative government of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher has concerns about the airline falling into the hands of SAS, which is half-owned by the Scandinavian government. SAS is offering $198 million for a 26.14% stake and might eventually boost its interest to 40%. Another suitor, British Airways, has raised its bid with a cash offer that values the airline at $360 million.
