A judge in Miami refused to allow another drug test for suspended Miami linebacker George Mira Jr., but suspended offensive tackle John O’Neill submitted another sample for urinalysis as both pursued efforts to play in Friday’s national championship Orange Bowl game against Oklahoma.
Mira and O’Neill were suspended from play last Wednesday after National Collegiate Athletic Assn. tests showed they had used diuretics, prescription drugs that are commonly used to mask muscle-building steroids.
Regarding the case, Eben Crawford, an attorney for the NCAA said: “The NCAA’s position is that on Dec. 11, when the testing was done, these boys had drugs in their systems and consequently they’re ineligible.”
