A 33-year-old man suspected of robbing a savings and loan of an undisclosed amount of money Tuesday afternoon was later apprehended when he crashed into a guard rail on a San Diego Freeway on-ramp.

Garden Grove Police Lt. Bill Dalton said the suspect, David Bruce Lockner, of Garden Grove, was taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition Tuesday night with massive head injuries.

Dalton said the suspect entered Coast Savings & Loan Assn. in the 12500 block of Valley View Street at 3:38 p.m. He told a teller that he had a gun in a bag he was carrying and demanded money. After receiving the money, witnesses said the suspect fled on a small black motorcycle.

A few minutes later, Westminster police officers responded to an accident on the Springdale Street on-ramp of the freeway and discovered the suspect unconscious. Dalton said the officers located the money in Lockner’s waistband and also retrieved a gun lying on the ground.
