Woman Dragged by Purse Thieves’ Car

Share

An 83-year-old woman fell prey Saturday to two relentless--and heartless--purse thieves who snatched her purse in a Granada Hills shopping center.

The woman was walking in the parking lot of a Hughes Market on Devonshire Street when the thieves attempted to take her purse. When she did not let go, they jumped into their car and drove off while the woman clung stubbornly to the purse strap.

Police estimated that the thieves dragged the woman about 40 feet and then pulled her under the car, running over her before she let go.

Police were withholding the woman’s identity until they could reach relatives. She was listed in serious condition at Holy Cross Hospital.

Witnesses described the thieves’ car to police as a beat-up white Camaro IROC Z-28 with a damaged driver’s door. They said the front left tire did not match the other three tires and there was a KNAC radio station sticker on the rear bumper.
