Andre Dawson agreed to a two-year contract...
Andre Dawson agreed to a two-year contract with the Chicago Cubs for about $3.95 million but may have waived his right to become a free agent again if the Major League Players’ Assn. wins the 1986 collusion case.
Dawson, who Feb. 14 lost his bid for a $2-million arbitration salary and was awarded $1.85 million by arbitrator Stephen Goldberg, will receive a base salary of $1.85 million for this season and $2.1 million in 1989, a source close to the negotiations told The Associated Press.
The Cubs have an option for 1990 for about $2.1 million, the source said.
The source said that Dawson, who came to Chicago as a free agent last year, had waived his right to become a free agent again. Dawson said that he kept his right to become a free agent but will not execise it.
