Prep Softball : Fountain Valley Gains Woodbridge Final

Rae Rice threw a three-hitter and Fountain Valley High School scored two runs in the eighth inning to defeat Bellflower, 2-0, Tuesday in one semifinal of the Woodbridge softball tournament at Harvard Park in Irvine.

Fountain Valley will play Gahr in the final at 5 today.

Janet Miyahara threw a no-hitter as Fountain Valley defeated Laguna Hills, 3-0, earlier Tuesday in a quarterfinal game.

In other Woodbridge tournament games:

Gahr 3, Woodbridge 0 (10 innings)--DeDe Weiman (13-1) threw a no-hitter and had 25 strikeouts to lead Gahr into the final.

Bellflower 3, Valencia 1--Michele Granger, Valencia’s pitching star, was out while resting her sore back as Bellflower advanced.

In the Angelus League:

Mater Dei 1, Bishop Montgomery 0--Beth Lomeli (8-2) threw a no-hitter but missed out on a perfect game with a third-inning walk for host Mater Dei (10-3, 1-0). Lomeli walked in the fourth inning, moved to second on a passed ball, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a fielder’s choice on a ball hit by Terry Callahan.

In the Sunrise League:

Rosary 28, Loretto 4--Kate Schilling had two hits, including a home run and three RBIs for host Rosary (7-6, 1-0). Cindy Matthews and Suzi Canney had two hits, scored four runs and had four RBIs for Rosary.

In the Charter Oak tournament:

Trabuco Hills 3, Central 0--Marta Bicket (4-6) pitched a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts and 2 walks for Trabuco Hills (4-6) in the consolation round. Bicket and Tina Thumbauer had two hits and Tracy McKee had a hit and two RBIs for Trabuco Hills.

In nonleague play:

Linfield Christian 10, St. Margaret’s 0--Julie Fletcher pitched a no-hitter for Linfield Christian at St. Margaret’s. Linfield Christian (7-1) had only four hits, but still won. St. Margaret’s is 3-5.
