Local News in Brief : Laguna Niguel : Two Men Injured by Electrical Flash Fire

Two men were injured by an electrical flash fire Tuesday morning while working on an underground transformer at Town Center Plaza in Laguna Niguel, fire officials said.

Bruce Harbour, 50, of Whittier received first- and second-degree burns on his left forearm and was treated at the scene, said Patti Range, a spokeswoman for the Orange County Fire Department. Mike Santana, 33, of Riverside received first- and second-degree burns on his face, lips, ears and both forearms. He was transported by ambulance to Mission Community Hospital in Mission Viejo where he was treated and released.

The two men were working on the transformer at 30120 Town Center Drive when the flash fire occurred at 10:52 a.m., Range said. Damage was estimated at $1,500.

Gene Carter, a spokesman for Southern California Edison Co., said the fire knocked out power to the complex of retail stores and offices, as well as to other structures in the immediate area. He said power was restored to the majority of customers within 30 minutes, but that four customers remained without power for about six hours.
