Fountain Valley : Disaster Preparedness Program Set for April 23

A Disaster Preparedness Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 23 at the Fountain Valley Recreation and Cultural Center. The event is free.

The fair, scheduled during National Earthquake Preparedness Month, will offer information on how to ready a home and family members to survive two to three days without outside assistance in the event of a disaster.

Co-sponsored by the city of Fountain Valley and the Fountain Valley Neighborhood Watch organization, the fair also will feature informational slides and videos, and demonstrations of first aid and fire safety tips.

Neighborhood Watch president Walt Johnson said the Orange County chapter of the American Red Cross and members of city water, fire and gas departments will be on hand with instructions and tips for citizens in emergency situations. Vendors will display survival merchandise.

Demonstrations and pictures on what happens during floods and earthquakes, as well as how to secure your home and prepare survival gear, will be provided at the event.
