Western Digital, the Irvine-based computer products manufacturer, has entered a new market by introducing computer chips and boards that control the functions of high-speed laser and page printers.

Western Digital’s core business is manufacturing chips and boards that control the storage, communications, graphics and other functions inside computers. But the products designed for printers represent a new business area for the firm.
