Local News in Brief : Fullerton : Small Businesses Asked to Do Own Fire Checks
The Fullerton Fire Department is asking owners of small businesses to participate in a new annual self-inspection program to free firefighters to inspect larger businesses and sites that store hazardous chemicals.
To qualify for the program, businesses must have a low fire hazard rating, must not use hazardous materials in their operation and must not have a fire protection system that requires regular maintenance. Also, businesses must have a history free of fire code violations and occupy less than 3,000 square feet.
Fire officials estimate that 35% of the roughly 5,500 businesses and industries within the city will be eligible for the program.
Businesses will have 30 days to complete the inspection, correct any problems and return a written inspection form to the city. If, after an additional reminder, the form is not returned, firefighters will conduct the inspection.
For information about the program, contact Rochelle Maurer at the Fullerton Fire Department at (714) 738-6500.
