Interferon, combined with standard chemotherapy drugs, shows promise in controlling multiple myeloma, a lethal form of bone cancer, researchers said. Interferon is a natural, hormone-like substance that, among other things, helps regulate the body’s immune system. In the latest research by Dr. Martin M. Oken of the University of Minnesota, presented at the annual meeting of the American Assn. of Clinical Oncology in New Orleans, it was found that interferon plus chemotherapy produced complete remission in 30% of the 54 patients studied.
