Allegheny International has called off plans to sell its Thermco Systems Inc. subsidiary to a Massachusetts company after the U.S. Justice Department said the sale would violate federal antitrust laws. Thermco, based in Orange, is the nation’s largest producer of diffusion furnace systems. Last January, Pittsburgh-based Allegheny signed a letter of intent to sell Thermco to BTU Engineering Corp. of Billerica, Mass., the nation’s second-largest producer.
