Assessing Dukakis, Bush and Jackson

Share

Finally! A candidate has spoken for the environment! (“Jackson Takes Militant Stand on Environmental Protection,” Part I, May 15).

Since (former Democratic candidate) Bruce Babbitt dropped out of the race, I have watched angrily as the most critical issues of our lives went virtually unmentioned. Anyone who is concerned with the horrifying implications of nuclear energy, toxic rain, coastal drilling, forest destruction, animal extinction, or air, ocean and river pollution should realize the supreme priority of environmental issues and the critical need for a President who will form active, visionary policies regarding these issues.

I sadly wonder how many ecology-minded Americans went emotionally untapped during the early part of this campaign. It may be too late for Jackson. It’s not too late for us to demand that the political survivors tell us where they stand.
