The international family feud over use of the Gucci name for retail sales was partially settled with a federal judge ruling the grandson of the company’s founder cannot use his own name as a trademark. Gucci is barred from designing and selling merchandise under the company name “Paolo Gucci,” as he has in the past, the judge said. But U.S. District Judge William C. Conner, in a 33-page decision, ruled Paolo Gucci can attach his name to other trademarked products. Paolo’s name can follow an existing trademark--for example, “American Tourister Luggage by Paolo Gucci,” the judge wrote.
