A White House-sponsored conference on drugs said that legalization of drugs would be a “profound mistake” and society should instead expand and stiffen measures already in use, including screening in the workplace. Such measures would include extending anti-drug policies to “every employee in every private and public workplace” and stiffening mandatory penalties for traffickers, including addition of the death penalty for drug dealers who commit murder.
