Local News in Brief : Jackson Wise to This One

Share

A prankster called Los Angeles’ KABC radio interview show Thursday claiming to be political consultant Carl D’Agostino, who has been under fire this week for preparing controversial memos for mayoral hopeful Zev Yaroslavsky.

The prankster was phoning to inform host Michael Jackson that he would be unable to make it to the call-in show as he had previously agreed. But Jackson, who had been duped the day before by an abusive caller identifying himself as “Mike Presser,” a vice president in D’Agostino’s firm, was ready for him.

This time it was easier to expose the hoax: D’Agostino was sitting across from Jackson in the radio studio at the time.

When Jackson told the caller that in several minutes the phone company would trace the call, the phony hung up. The trace was never made.
