L. A. Bids for Maccabi Basketball Sweep
Jason Farrell of West Hills twice scored in double figures Wednesday to lead the Los Angeles Maccabee Athletic Club boys’ basketball team to a pair of wins in the Maccabi Games in Chicago.
Farrell had 10 points and seven assists in a 70-65 win over Long Island, N.Y., and 15 points, 7 assists and 5 steals in an 84-51 rout of Florida. L. A. will play Washington, D. C., today at Northwestern University for the gold medal.
In girls’ basketball, L. A. defeated Philadelphia, 32-30, in double overtime and then beat Chicago (16-15) and Boston (19-17) in abbreviated tiebreaker games to advance to the gold medal contest today against Boston.
In soccer, Meir Cohen of Woodland Hills, and William Verba and Eyal Rappaport, both of Encino, scored goals as L. A. advanced to the championship with a 3-2 win over New Jersey.
