Peru’s Minpeco SA, which won $134 million in a lawsuit charging the Hunt Brothers with conspiracy to corner the silver market, is confident that it will still collect a large sum despite bankruptcy filings by two of the brothers, a Minpeco lawyer said. “We weren’t surprised by it. We see it as another legal maneuver by the Hunts,” said Mark Cymrot, a Washington lawyer who represents the government-owned mineral marketing company. Nelson Bunker Hunt and William Herbert Hunt each filed for personal bankruptcy under Chapter 11 to obtain protection from creditors and lawsuits while they develop a plan to repay creditors. A third brother, Lamar, did not file for bankruptcy because he played a lesser role in the silver speculation, a Hunt spokesman said.
