A train sidetracked by an improperly positioned switch rumbled onto a service track, struck a maintenance car and derailed near Epernay, France, 70 miles east of Paris. Nine railroad workers were killed and 13 other people were injured, authorities said. Transport Minister Michel Delebarre said the fatal accident, France’s third this year, occurred while the nine-car train was traveling to Paris from Luxembourg. The victims were French, Moroccan and Algerian nationals, officials said. The accident brings the death toll this year to 68 on France’s railroads.
