Dash For Speed, Florentine Head Los Alamitos Field
Florentine and Dash For Speed, leading candidates to be quarter horse world champion this year, head a 10-horse field in the $200,000 Los Alamitos Champion of Champions tonight at Los Alamitos Race Course.
The past four winners of the Champion of Champions (Dashs Dream, Cash Rate, Gold Coast Express and First Down Dash) were named world champion by a vote of members of the American Quarter Horse Assn.
Florentine, 12th on the all-time quarter horse earnings list with $1.1 million, has won its last four races, including a victory over Dash For Speed in last month’s Breeders Championship Classic.
Dash For Speed also has won its last four races, including the prestigious All-American Derby and Rainbow Derby at New Mexico’s Ruidoso Downs.
