Transient Dies in Fire at Fairgrounds Building
A 60-year-old man who apparently fell asleep while smoking a cigarette died Sunday in a fire at a storage building at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, a spokesman for the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.
Firefighters from Del Mar and Solana Beach found Building 57B, in the central area of the fairgrounds, in flames when they arrived at the scene about 10 a.m. They later discovered the charred remains of Alvin J. Pruitt, a transient with no known address, the spokesman said.
