A clogged sewer main Monday afternoon caused untreated sewage to flow into La Jolla Cove for about two hours, county health authorities reported.
The backup in the 1100 block of Prospect Avenue in La Jolla was reported at 5:35 p.m. Approximately 600 gallons of sewage flowed down storm drains and into the cove before crews could repair the line at 7:30 p.m.
Signs warning swimmers to avoid the area were posted by the county Department of Health Services.
