Ruling Party Ahead in 2 Mexico States

MEXICO CITY —
The ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party made a predictably strong showing in municipal elections in the central states of Tlaxcala and Chiapas on Mexico’s southern border.
Preliminary results from Sunday’s vote in Chiapas indicated that the leftist Mexican Socialist Party may have won in the town of Soyalo. But it appears that the Institutional Revolutionary Party, or PRI, took the rest of the 109 municipalities.
The PRI also claimed victories throughout the agricultural and textile-making state of Tlaxcala.
