The United States has released the equivalent of $20 million in Haitian currency to assist the Haitian government in health care and disaster-relief programs, according to State Department spokesman Charles Redman. Washington suspended all U.S. aid a year ago after an outbreak of election-day violence. Redman said expenditure of the funds will require U.S. approval. He said the Administration has also approved a $10-million loan guarantee last month to aid the commercial sale of U.S. wheat to Haiti.
