A strike by editorial workers at the Chicago Sun-Times was postponed when the newspaper’s management made a new contract proposal, a Sun-Times executive said. The offer was forwarded to members of Chicago Newspaper Guild Local 71, which represents 250 reporters, editors, photographers and support staff, 90 minutes after a strike deadline had passed and the guild had “frozen the clock.” Management proposed freezing salaries in the first year and 3% pay raises in the second and third years, a guild negotiator said. Talks are to be resumed today.
