The justices of the Supreme Court, Washington’s most camera-shy government officials, saw a brief demonstration of how television could cover their sessions. Several media organizations have worked to interest the justices in opening their sessions to television coverage. The demonstration, before Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist and Justices Byron R. White and Anthony M. Kennedy and an empty courtroom, was intended to show that TV cameras would not disrupt court proceedings. “We wanted to show them that they could do this without any change in lighting and that it would be unobtrusive,” said attorney Timothy Dyk, who presented the 25-minute demonstration.
