U2 Temptations

Share

After reading “The First Temptation of U2,” it became obvious to me that Robert Hilburn should make a career change and become the opening act for Sam Kinison.

Hilburn’s portrayal of U2 as a group akin to Jesus and his Disciples, and his reaffirmation of Bruce Springsteen as God, left me laughing so hard I had to stop reading just so I could catch my breath.

Hilburn’s liberal quoting of Dave Marsh was equally amusing. Anyone who’s read Marsh knows that he and Hilburn are ideological clones. Trying to distinguish between their musical philosophies is like trying to tell the difference between Zsa Zsa and Eva Gabor.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Hilburn and Marsh had shrines built in their house just so they could worship U2 and Springsteen, because neither has been able to write an article without crossing the border that distinguishes journalists from fan magazine writers.
