Woman Dies in Inglewood Apartment Fire
A 26-year-old Inglewood woman died when a fire that started in a sofa swept through her 1-bedroom apartment, authorities said Wednesday.
Arson investigator Jim Colvin said Tammie Brown was apparently awakened in her Lockhaven-area apartment late Tuesday night by smoke from the fire smoldering in the sofa. He said she apparently grabbed a small Christmas tree, fearing that it would ignite, and rushed with it to the kitchen to get some water. But after filling a pan, she collapsed from smoke inhalation with the tree on top of her, Colvin said.
Inglewood fire officials estimated the damage at $20,000 and said the blaze was put out in five minutes. Brown was alone in the apartment. Her child was reportedly staying with the father Tuesday night.
