Local News in Brief : Woman Struck, Killed While Jaywalking
A Van Nuys woman died after she was struck by a car while she was jaywalking, police said Sunday.
The victim, Jean Stevens, 49, was hit about 11:15 p.m. Saturday as she crossed Fulton Avenue near Sylvan Street, a residential street in Van Nuys, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Gil Rendon said. The area she was crossing was dark, with the nearest street lamp about 130 feet away, he said.
The driver of the car, Lance Marinelli, 23, of Mission Hills, was going north on Fulton Avenue, Rendon said. He was not injured, he said.
Stevens was taken to Valley Hospital Medical Center in Van Nuys, where she was pronounced dead at 11:42 p.m., authorities said.
