Los Angeles Teachers’ Strike Settlement
I am willing to stipulate that the teachers’ win in the strike was one small step for the teachers, but one giant step for mankind. Obviously if the teachers had continued to feel like Rodney Dangerfield, we would have had to close our failing school system and contract the function out to some Japanese company.
However if the teachers’ longer-term goal is to be treated like other professionals, I suggest self-policing to remove incompetents as well as the “right” to be sued for malpractice. My only concern with the latter proposal is that no insurance company could set the premiums high enough to make a profit off such coverage.
