Space Goals vs. Earth Goals

We’ve reached the 20th anniversary of the Apollo Moon landing as well as the “Needs of the Poor” vs. the “space program” debates. I would like to set the record straight on this issue: NASA is not keeping the poor from being helped. We are the richest nation on Earth and can easily conduct an ambitious space program and take care of our needy. Nations such as England, whose living standard is much less than ours, do a much better job of caring for their citizens.

The reason that we don’t do more for our own people is because we are greedy, selfish, and not really concerned with the affairs of others. Scrapping the space program will not change our attitudes. It would be far more constructive for Americans to re-evaluate their own fortunes and responsibilities that we all have to help each other.
