Fireman’s Fund Corp.: The Greenwich, Conn.-based insurer’s third-quarter earnings dropped 85% from a year ago to $7 million. Revenue totaled $904 million, up 4%. The results were due to $36 million in pretax losses attributed to Hurricane Hugo and increases of $71 million recorded to reflect higher-than-expected legal expenses related to prior periods. The results do not include any losses related to the Oct. 17 earthquake in Northern California.
