Second-ranked Colorado completed its first unbeaten regular season since 1937 and won its first Big Eight championship in 28 years, routing Kansas State, 59-11, Saturday at Manhattan, Kan.

Colorado quarterback Darian Hagan became the fifth player in NCAA history to run and pass for more than 1,000 yards in a season. Hagan, a 185-pound sophomore, passed for 69 yards and ran for 156, increasing his season totals to 1,004 and 1,002. He scored three touchdowns, and J.J. Flannigan rushed for 246 yards and four touchdowns.

The Buffaloes, 11-0 overall and 7-0 in the conference, prevented either Oklahoma or Nebraska from at least a share of the title for the first time since 1961.

Kansas State finished 1-10 and 0-7.

Flannigan got the Buffaloes rolling on the first play from scrimmage with the first of two 57-yard runs, and then went over from the two-yard line.

Hagan’s one-yard run capped a 73-yard drive a few minutes later.

Hagan also scored on runs of 30 and 14 yards.

Iowa State 31, Oklahoma State 21--Blaise Bryant ran for 208 yards as the Cyclones won at Stillwater, Okla.

Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy completed 25 of 41 passes for 315 yards and three touchdowns, becoming the first player in conference history to throw for more than 2,000 yards in three seasons.

He rallied the Cowboys in the fourth quarter, pulling them within 24-21, but a late drive ended on downs at Iowa State’s 36 with 1:05 remaining.

Then Bryant, who had 33 carries, sealed the victory with a one-yard touchdown run that came one play after he had run for 62 yards.

The Cyclones ended the season 6-5 overall--only their third winning season this decade--and 4-3 in the Big Eight. Oklahoma State finished 4-7 and 3-4.
