NATION : Snowstorms Blister the East
Snowstorms today stretched from Kansas to the nation’s capital, closing schools and paralyzing rush hour traffic.
Heavy snow in Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma made roads treacherous, and police said at least 10 people were killed in accidents Thursday and today.
A winter storm warning was posted today for parts of Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware and North Carolina.
Schools were closed in parts of Indiana, West Virginia and in Washington, D.C., where snow was falling heavily and up to 8 inches was forecast. The federal government dismissed its workers early under a staggered-release plan in order to avoid traffic tie-ups.
