SHORT TAKES : Actor Arrested With Gun in Car

Actor Don Stroud, who has appeared on “Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer” and other police dramas, was arrested for carrying a loaded .357 magnum in his car, authorities said Wednesday.

Stroud, 46, was stopped by police at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday when they spotted him driving the wrong way on 5th Street downtown, Lt. Dan Hills said.

Stroud was also driving with a suspended license, Hills said.

“They got him out of the car, and he said, ‘By the way, I’ve got a gun in the car,’ ” Hills said.

The officers found the handgun, loaded with three rounds, stowed under the driver’s seat, Hills said.

Stroud was booked on suspicion of possessing a loaded gun within reach in his car, a misdemeanor. He was later released.

Stroud, who holds a black belt in karate, played Capt. Pat Chambers on “Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer” series and has appeared in a number of feature films, including “The Choirboys,” “The Buddy Holly Story,” and “The Amityville Horror.” He got his start as Troy Donahue’s stunt double in the old television series “Hawaiian Eye.”
